It is no surprise to most of us that pain and suffering are an inevitable part of life. From stubbing our toes or missing a train, to deep hurts, loss, and traumatic life events.
Sometimes when these events come at once it can be overwhelming. Or when lots of little things build up over time the weight can feel unmanageable and we lose ourselves in stress and worry. This is totally normal.
A common strategy when coping with difficult situations is to subconsciously resist, deny, blame, suppress or even divert ourselves away from them. In fact, in mindfulness we may see that this action of avoidance or resistance IS the suffering we experience.
When we do our best to accept what we can about a situation, we fall into alignment with what IS already the case and with that comes a certain amount of peace. It's helpful to remember that acceptance isn't a negotiation with the event, "if I accept it then it'll will go away". True acceptance is accepting everything about it, including most importantly how we feel about it, and this takes practice.
